Storm Window Smashes Neck

$450,000

The Incident

A 50-year old woman was working as a laborer as part of a City of Chicago crew installing new street lights on the Southeast Side of Chicago. On the date of the occurrence, her duties involved unloading and loading of materials and tools for the crew doing the installations. As she was walking across the parkway next to a 3-flat apartment building, an object suddenly swung around the corner of the building and struck in her hard hat and down into the side of her neck. The object was determined to be a storm window (with glass in the frame). Investigation by our attorneys and a Glass & Construction Expert determined that the window frame had been poorly maintained and there was a failure to meet basic building code requirements for regular inspections.

The Result -  $450,000
